Come learn the Japanese martial art of Judo. In this dynamic, energetic art, you learn to use your opponent's momentum to your advantage with throws, sweeps, and pinning, as well as other techniques. Our training program emphasizes safe, but disciplined training environment for beginners and experienced judo players alike. Traditional judo is emphasized, along with the competitive techniques successful in competition. The members of our club practice judo for many reasons. These include:

  • Exercise: Judo is a great physical workout. You will definitely break a sweat at our practices.
  • Competition and Sport: Not only is it fun, but using techniques against a live opponent is an invaluable part of learning judo. Internationally, judo is one of the most widely practiced sports in the world.
  • Self Defense: Yes, it's a sport, but it's still a martial art.
  • Curiosity and Intellectual Challenge: In both the formal aspects of techniques (kata) and the tactics of competition, judo is a workout for your brain.
  • Relaxation and Fun: Stress relief after a hard day in the lab! Judo is supposed to be fun, and it is!
  • ...and more.
In our club, you can pursue any or all of these goals.

None of the club's senseis (instructors) are paid for the many hours of work they volunteer to teach our students. Among the instructors are many years of experience and expertise. They are well qualified to teach and share not just attack and defense techniques, but all aspects of Judo.
